Jerza (ジェラエル Jeruza) is a canon pair between Crime Sorcière Mage, Jellal Fernandes and Fairy Tail S-Class Mage, Erza Scarlet. They have mutual romantic feelings.

About Jellal and Erza

Jellal Fernandes

Jellal Fernandes (ジェラール・フェルナンデス Jerāru Ferunandesu) is a childhood friend of Erza Scarlet. Before he lost his own memory, he was a Dark Mage who desperately sought to revive Zeref via the R-System. Jellal served as the main antagonist of the Tower of Heaven arc and is currently a member of Crime Sorcière.

Jellal is a young man whose most prominent features are his blue hair and a red tattoo under and above his right eye, which he has had since his childhood. As his Siegrain alter-ego, he dressed himself in elegant yet simple robes; consisting of a long white tunic with black stripes across the edges and on the upper part of the arms, a decorated collar, large straps connected to decorated buckles closing the inducement on the front over a dark shirt, and matching pants and shoes. He also sported a ring on his right middle finger, and usually had the medallion attesting his status as one of the Ten Wizard Saints around his neck, hidden by his jacket's collar.

Jellal himself is seen in much darker clothing, with his attire consisting of a whitish blue shirt under a hooded dark blue coat with light blue edges, two strings with shield-shaped pendants hanging down from the hood and a prominent golden symbol on the left part of the chest, reminiscent of Fairy Tail's mark, plus simple, loose, dark pants tucked inside laced boots.

Under these clothes is a special fighting suit for melee combat, designed for his Meteor spell, revealing his toned and muscular body. In the manga, this takes the form of a skin-tight outfit. Said outfit is dark around the torso and mid-arm regions of Jellal's body, whilst the rest, such as his shoulders, forearm, and thighs down, is light in color. On his shoulder and hips, Jellal has small protrusions on his outfit, which, each, come with the three holes, serving the purpose of aiding him in his aerodynamic efforts. The rest of the suit is decorated by groups of three thin lines over the arms and legs, with a double set adorning the chest. In this attire, a metal necklace with a small pendant, highly reminiscent of the Wizard Saint's one worn by his Siegrain counterpart is visible around Jellal's neck. In the anime, however, his fighting suit is portrayed as a simple skin-tight sleeveless purple shirt paired with extremely loose blue cargo pants (tucked inside simple boots), which is held up by a light bluish belt, and gloves.

Later, after his revival, he is seen taking the clothes of a defeated Naked Mummy member to cover his partially torn fighting attire (in the anime, the clothes were instead Erigor's). This new attire consists of a long black coat decorated by golden trimmings, white bands around his arms, two red medal-like ornaments on each side of his chest, a tight-fitting shirt reminiscent of the one in his old attire, and loose grey pants held up by a belt; the pants are tucked inside the boots. Seven years later, while his physical appearance is virtually unchanged, save for his now longer, scragglier hair, his attire now consists of a dark coat, very similar to the one he stole from the Naked Mummy member, only with heart like designs running down the sleeves and sides of the coat. Beneath this, Jellal wears plated armor, which covers his abdomen, and dark pants bearing the symbol of Crime Sorcière. Over the top of all this, Jellal sports a dark, high-collared cloak.

During the Grand Magic Games, when disguised as his Edolas counterpart, Mystogan, Jellal wears the same attire that he wore during his time in Earth Land, and even opts to use the Former Mage's staves as his own.

When he was young, Jellal was a very kind boy, and cared deeply for his friends. He was always cheerful and optimistic, despite his disposition as a slave. After a failed escape attempt, he readily accepted punishment in Erza's stead, and never once lost his faith in the thought of being free.

Later, as he was manipulated by what he thought to be Zeref's ghost, he drastically changed: Jellal became obsessed with the idea of building a new R-System and treated the slaves much better — to the extent that they didn't even think they were still slaves. But through this method of treatment, they did more work, which was Jellal's ultimate reason for treating them as such in the first place. He sees his actions as a game, even if said game results in the loss of lives, his very own included.

After he was revived by Wendy Marvell, he suffered from amnesia and seemed to be somewhat afraid of the world. Though not remembering his own identity, he remembered Erza's name, respectively. As he learned of his sins, Jellal wished to die, as he believed it to be his only form of atonement, but Erza convinced that through living, he can find a way to make up for his past horrid deeds. Following these instances, even when arrested by the Knights, Jellal remained calm and even happy, just as he did when he was a child. Mavis Vermilion even commented that Jellal possesses the same "heart" as those in Fairy Tail, in spite of the fact that he isn't an actual member.

Seven years later, after regaining his memories and having returned to his original personality, Jellal is now a calm, mature, intelligent, and kind individual. He has shown a cheerful side, as he often smiles when pleased, or when his friends are happy. While as "Mystogan", he makes sure he acts quiet and aloof, so as to not arouse suspicion to the fact that Fairy Tail is housing an escaped convict. However, Jellal's regret towards his past deeds has caused him to feel the need to atone for his sins, which he did, as he created Crime Sorcière: an Independent Guild dedicated to the destruction of Dark Guilds. Despite this, he still feels he deserves punishment, as he told Ultear and Meredy that "punishment" is the theme of their guild. It is this guilt that keeps Jellal from responding to Erza's feelings, which he reciprocates, as he believes he doesn't deserve her. But, he loves her very much.

Despite his rather serious nature, Jellal does have a comedic side, as in his fight with Jura Neekis, where a direct result of Ultear sabotaging his battle with the Wizard Saint, he has fits of hysterical laughter, as well as reacting strongly to the sensation of peppers he had in his mouth. Later, when he walked back to his teammates, Jellal felt ashamed and stated that he had no words to describe his feelings of shame and embarrassment.

Erza Scarlet

Erza Scarlet (エルザ・スカーレット Eruza Sukāretto) is an S-Class Mage of the Fairy Tail Guild, wherein she is a member of Team Natsu. She also served as the guild's 7th Guild Master during Makarov's absence in X792.

Erza is a young woman with long, scarlet hair and brown eyes. She lost her right eye as a child and now has an artificial one which was created by Porlyusica. She has a slender, voluptuous figure that Lucy Heartfilia described as "amazing." Her most common attire consists of custom-made armor by Heart Kreuz smiths, a blue skirt, and black boots. Her Fairy Tail stamp is blue and is located on the middle of her left upper arm. Erza's specialty in Requip Magic allows her to requip not only armors but different outfits as well, enabling her to change her attire at any given time.

Erza is a very strict person, often criticizing the bad behavior and habits of the other guild members, causing most of them to apologize, fearing that they might invoke her wrath. She is also very impatient, disliking people who don't answer her questions quickly enough. This, coupled with her own tragic childhood, caused many of her guildmates to avoid her due to her social awkwardness. However, she has a great sense of justice and pride in being a member of Fairy Tail.

According to Lucy, in the letter she wrote for her mother, Erza is "cool and beautiful, warm and full of passion", while to Erza Knightwalker, Erza is strong, cool, and a little scary but relied on by everyone. Jellal, when he had lost his memories, remembering nothing but the name "Erza", said her name was "full of kindness, brightness and warmth".

Erza describes herself as someone who was always crying, since she wasn't able to protect those dear to her. Several examples are when Rob tried to shield her from destruction, and when Jellal was captured because he saved her and was brainwashed by "Zeref". Also, Erza has stated that she feels uncomfortable and insecure when she's not wearing armor. However, when Erza encounters Ikaruga, she overcomes her fear and defeats her without her armor.

Despite her reserved personality and mostly dressing in her conservative Heart Kreuz armor, Erza has been shown to have very little modesty and an unusual view on the concept in general. Many of her armors are skimpy, revealing and feminine, and when out of armor she has an affinity for sexy and revealing clothing. Finally, Erza seems to have no problem with men (or at least her male guildmates) seeing her naked. She felt no discomfort stating her desire to shower with Natsu and Gray or the fact that she used to shower with them when they were younger. When they were at the hot spring, when she learned that the boys may have been peeping on her and the other girls, she wanted to invite them to bathe with them, much to Wendy's shock and Lucy's strong objection. Lucy has also stated that Erza has a habit of climbing into her bed in their shared room during the Grand Magic Games.

It was shown that Erza can't hold her liquor. While drunk, she acts very aggressive towards others, as shown by her behavior towards her guildmates. She also seems to have a problem recognizing people when drunk.

As mentioned by Levy, Erza has a secret fondness for smut and erotic novelsand when suring a fight , she also at some point in time thinks about using a seductive armor too win a fight wich she states that she bought for her own purposes but later decides against it to save her dignity.

History

Jellal's History

Young Jellal

As a child, Jellal was forced to help build the Tower of Heaven together with other slaves, such as Erza, Shô, Simon, Wally and Millianna, wherein he acted as the leading figure of their group.

Jellal Being Possessed by "Zeref"

There, after a failed escape attempt and the reclusion that followed it, he was possessed by what he believed was the legendary Dark Mage Zeref, supplanting his former kind personality with a more violent one, which made him almost completely insane.

He exiled Erza from the island and took control of the construction of the Tower of Heaven in order to resurrect Zeref, and thus create a world of "true freedom". He bombed the ship that was supposed to take the slaves off the island, and told them afterward that it was Erza's doing, as she had gone insane with her newfound Magic Powers. Believing that she had truly escaped on her own and thus betrayed them, the slaves helped him build the tower for the next eight years as a way of showing their gratitude for saving them from certain death.

While growing up, Jellal was taken under the tutelage of the Oración Seis leader Brain, having taught Jellal some of his skills and Magic, namely one of them being the Self-Destruction Spell.

Meanwhile, Jellal had worked his way into the Magic Council using a Thought Projection of himself, named "Siegrain". Sometime after this, Jellal, as "Siegrain", ran into Erza Scarlet, and prevented her from attacking him by lying to her, saying that he was Jellal's twin brother.

Erza's History

Erza Saving Kagura

Erza grew up in Rosemary Village, the same place where Kagura and Simon lived as children. Her mother, Irene, had abandoned her when she was a baby. When Rosemary Village was attacked by a Zeref-following cult, Erza managed to save Kagura from capture by hiding her inside a crate, but got caught herself as a result. She was enslaved by the cult and forced to build the Tower of Heaven, a structure developed for the purpose of resurrecting the Dark Mage, Zeref. She was imprisoned together with several other slaves, most of them were children. Among these children were Jellal Fernandes, Shô, Simon, Wally Buchanan, and Millianna. While they were asking each other for their names, she said that her name was just "Erza", so Jellal decided to give her the surname "Scarlet" after her scarlet hair so they would never forget it. Despite the harsh conditions of her enslavement and labor, Erza became close friends with the other children. She also formed a strong bond with Rob, an elderly Mage from the Fairy Tail Guild, who taught her about Magic and his guild.

Jellal Rescues Erza

One day in X776, Shô came up with a plan for the eleven-year-old Erza and all their friends to escape from the tower. They were unfortunately caught by the guards, who decided to send the escape's mastermind to the tower's disciplinary chamber, while the rest would be deprived of food for three days. Seeing how fearful Shô was, Erza prepared to take the blame herself, but Jellal announced himself as the mastermind instead. However, the guards reasoned that Erza was the one responsible and sent her to the disciplinary chamber, where she was tortured to the brink of death and lost her right eye. Jellal rescued her, but was captured soon after. Finally fed up with their torment, Erza staged a revolt against their captors so they could escape and save Jellal.

Erza Using Her Magic for the First Time

The revolt appeared to be successful at its inception until the tower's Mages arrived to repress the slaves, causing most of the other slaves to retreat. During the attack, Erza watched in horror as her friend Simon's lower jaw was blasted off by a Magical attack, while Rob sacrificed himself to defend Erza from another Mage's attack. In her rage, Erza's latent Magic Power was activated for the first time, and she used it to turn all of the discarded weapons and tools around her against the guards, finishing the revolt.

As the other slaves boarded ships meant to ensure their freedom, she reunited with Jellal, but discovered that he had changed; the kind and compassionate boy she knew him to be was suddenly twisted and violent, using Magic to slaughter the defenseless guards around them. Jellal had been possessed by what he claimed to be the spirit of Zeref, and decided that the only way for them to attain true freedom was to complete the Tower of Heaven and revive Zeref. Erza refused to help him, prompting Jellal to cast her out of the tower by herself, only letting her live because she helped take care of all the guards who would have opposed him. Before letting her escape, Jellal told Erza to keep the Tower of Heaven a secret from the government, as well as to never return to the tower, threatening to destroy the tower and kill everyone in it, including their friends, if she disobeyed.

Erza Arrives at Fairy Tail

After washing up on the shores of Fiore, Erza made her way to and joined the Fairy Tail Guild. She habitually began to wear armor and acted distant from the other members. After Gray, who tried picking fights with the reclusive Erza, saw her crying by herself and questioned why, she began to open up to her guildmates more. Around this time, Fairy Tail's master Makarov brought Erza to see Porlyusica, who gave her an artificial eye to replace the one she lost. With her eye healed Erza shed tears of joy, which only came out of her real, left eye, though Erza didn't mind as she said she had already shed half of her tears.

Erza Remembers Her S-Class Exam

As the years passed, Erza became more and more strict until she could be called the guild's disciplinarian. She took responsibility for breaking up fights between Gray and Natsu. At the same time, however, she was driven to constantly fight and bicker with fellow member Mirajane, which eventually ended after Mirajane greatly mellowed out in the wake of her younger sister Lisanna's apparent death in X782. In the year X780, Erza passed Fairy Tail's annually held S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, becoming the youngest member of the guild to do so at fifteen years of age.

Relationship

Jellal and Erza are childhood friends. When enslaved at the Tower of Heaven, they quickly developed a deep bond, with Erza taking on the surname, ‘Scarlet’ at Jellal’s suggestion. Jellal was extremely protective of Erza, and did his best to shield her from the tortures of their slavers. In turn, Erza looked up to Jellal and admired his strong sense of justice. Even after Jellal’s betrayal (albeit possession at Ultear’s hands), it is stated by Simon that Erza loved Jellal to the point where she could not even bring herself to hate him. It is because of this that she is quickly able to forgive him for his misdeeds after Jellal’s manipulation wore off.

Erza scolds Jellal

After the events of the Tower of Heaven, Erza and Jellal’s relationship becomes more evidently one of romance and mutual attraction. When talking to Jellal, Erza becomes soft and calm to cheer him up. She also tells him to be positive as she is with him, despite the crimes and sins he committed in the past and his previous attempts to kill her. She also wants Jellal to feel at ease around her, and feel that he doesn't need to feel guilty around her, because she has already forgiven him. Erza is also willing to be somewhat "rough" just for Jellal to accept his sins and live for the future, as just when she scolded him and slapped him for wishing his own death. She also worries and always cries for him, having tears in both her eyes, determining so much sorrow, as it is seen when Jellal is taken away. When Jellal gets arrested, Erza believes herself to have lost him and was greatly pained by this loss. She deeply regretted not saving him from the “darkness”, although given the situation, she was forced to prioritize her comrades. When fighting Azuma, Erza is able to hear Jellal from prison, urging her to fight; however, she reminds herself that he is gone and even seems angry with herself, yet also saddened, when she believed his voice to be a figment of her imagination. After discovering Jellal’s breakout from prison, Erza reaction is mixed due to both hopefulness and concern for Jellal. Upon meeting him once again, she initially appears worried, but is later glad to see that he had reverted back to his old self. However, she still worries for him constantly due to his status as a fugitive and being hunted by the Council, although she has shown faith in his abilities. It is during this time that Erza further develops her feelings for Jellal, saying that she regards his life as precious and, when he was fearful of his crimes, told him, “I am with you.” When the two are reunited for the first time in seven years, Erza attempts to initiate a kiss with him, although Jellal later rejects her advances, believing he didn’t deserve her due to his actions at the Tower of Heaven.

In front of Erza, Jellal is calm and talks kindly to her. He also does nothing and accepts everything Erza does, thinking that it's just one of his punishments. He wants Erza to be happy, to the point of pushing her away and lying to her that he has a fiancée after their kiss, as he believes that he is just making Erza sad. Jellal is also willing to feel hurt just for Erza, to the point of 'torturing' himself into not falling in love with Erza, doing that in an assumption that Erza would be happy even without him. Despite this, Jellal still wished for him and Erza to have a relationship, saddened yet also acceptant at the thought of Erza wishing to keep her distance from him. Because of this, he was happy about them being able to act friendly around each other, as seen when he thanked Erza for having a 'normal talk' after the two talked about the mysterious magical power at the Grand Magic Games. When in battle, Jellal tries to protect Erza as he could, even if he has to fight when lacking in magic power. Despite being a relatively calm individual, he is immensely angered when he sees Erza injured, to the point of attempting to kill Neinhart, an act he was willing to carry out despite considering it a sin. While fighting Acnologia, he does so with Erza in mind, hoping to protect her by risking his life. However, Erza understood his intentions to die and was fearful of his actions, being extremely relieved when Jellal was saved, even despite Wendy and Blue Pegasus’ sorrow at the supposed loss of Ichiya and Anna. Following this, Jellal appears to have more care for his life, deciding to live as an obligation to Erza and others.

Although currently on friendly terms, the two often find themselves in rather awkward situations, such as accidentally landing in initmate positions repeatedly while on Blue Pegasus's ship, Christina. They are sometimes seen blushing while in each other's presence or simply thinking of each other, although they deny any attraction of the sort to those around them, or even to they themselves. Despite this, Erza is shown to be quite protective of her relationship with Jellal, often portrayed in a comical sense, such as when she was turned into a child by Doriate and worried Jellal would not be ‘interested’ in her. She was panicked and even angered at Kyria’s threat of forcibly removing her feelings for one she loves, thinking instantly of Jellal despite denying her own affections.

Lullaby Arc

Siegrain tells Erza not to mention about the Tower of Heaven

Jellal and Erza are first seen in the Lullaby Arc, when Erza was called to the Magic Council, as various structures were destroyed during their battle with the Lullaby. While walking to the judgement room, Erza meets Siegrain, who is thought to be Jellal's twin brother, not knowing that it is actually Jellal's thought projection. Jellal then tells Erza to keep the Tower of Heaven a secret to the Magic Council, and leans his head towards her. Elsewhere, Jellal hopes that Erza does not ruin his plans. While in the mock trial, Jellal looks at Erza and grins at her.

Tower of Heaven Arc

Young Jellal and Erza at the Tower of Heaven

Loke invited the Erza, Lucy, Natsu, and Gray to a luxury resort. During her stay on the beach, Erza has a dream about her slave life at the Tower of Heaven. When she wakes up from the daydream, Lucy invites her to go to the resort's casino. While playing at the casino, Erza's childhood friends, Shô, Wally, Millianna and Simon, appear. The group intended to take Erza back to the Tower of Heaven where Jellal was waiting for her return.

Erza then has a short flashback, revealing her imprisonment with Jellal and the rest of her old friends. It was revealed that Jellal and Erza had been friends for a long time. They first met in the Tower of Heaven back when it was being constructed, as both of them were kidnapped for labor. During this time, Jellal gave Erza her last name: Scarlet, after the color of her hair. Jellal cared deeply for her, to the point of changing places with her when she was about to admit to a crime that she didn't commit. Jellal (in present time) confessed his love for Erza when she was pushed into the lacrima by him.

Oración Seis Arc

Erza asks Jellal on what he'll do in the future

Everyone rejoices as they are reunited. Erza says that she will support Jellal and he does not need to care about his memories. At this moment, they stare at each other, only for the new Magic Council to interrupt and arrest Hoteye and Jellal for their past criminal acts.

As Jellal willingly gives himself up to the Council, Lahar warns him that this will probably be the last time he ever sees them again, for he will either be given the death sentence or life imprisonment. Suddenly, an angered Natsu starts to fight against the Council, trying to bring Jellal back. This causes every other Mage to fight for Jellal as well, except for Erza, who can only tremble in sadness and watch the chaos. Erza decides to stop the commotion once and for all, and lets the Council take Jellal away. Jellal looks back at her in relief, but not before he mentions her scarlet hair, implying that he remembers the time he chose her last name, "Scarlet".

They say their final farewells and as Jellal is taken away, everyone looks on sadly. Erza later sits alone, crying for the loss of her friend as she remembers when she and Jellal were together as kids, and him choosing her last name based on her hair color. Tears starts to flow from both of her eyes as she remembers her childhood memories with Jellal.

Grand Magic Games Arc

After a day of celebration in the Spirit world, Virgo informs the gang that time runs different in the Spirit World than in Earth Land, thus they have lost almost the whole three months of training in the one day. Once they realize this, Erza and the others become depressed until the group is contacted by Jellal, Ultear, and Meredy. After a brief reunion, Ultear decides to increase everyone in Fairy Tail's power by activating their "Second Origin" with her improved Arc of Time.

Erza and Jellal go off to talk privately, and she asks him if all of his memories have returned, with him confirming that they have. He tells her he's prepared to die if she wants to seek revenge for him killing their friend Simon, however, Erza says she won't because Simon wouldn't have wanted that. When he says that he thinks death is the only way to truly redeem his sins, Erza slaps him and pulls on his collar, accidentally causing the two of them to fall off the rocky ledge they were sitting on and into a large flower field, with Jellal landing on top of her. Jellal and Erza are about to kiss, however Jellal pushes her away and tells her that he can't because he has a fiancee. Erza asks if he loves her, and he says yes, so Erza tells him that he should live for her. When Jellal, Ultear, and Meredy later take their leave, Erza sees them off. She smiles and remarks to herself that Jellal is a clumsy liar, referring to the fact that she knew he lied about having a fiancée, but accepts his decision on their relationship.

When he, Ultear, and Meredy sit at their camp later, Meredy asks Jellal why he lied to Erza about having a fiancée. Ultear adds that it would be better for him to be honest with himself rather than continue to punish himself. Shocked, Jellal replies that punishment is the rule of their guild, and that he can't fall in love with people who walk in the light. Ultear and Meredy then both tease him about his poor skill in lying.

A few days later in the capital of Fiore, Crocus, Team Natsu are still in pain from Ultear's spell, Erza scolding them for their embarrassing whining. Lucy wonders why Erza isn't in pain like them as well, with Gray suggesting that she probably already had her Second Origin to begin with. After a brief meeting with the rest of the Guild members that have arrived, Erza goes to the room provided for them to see if something is amiss. Later, when Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and Happy return to the Honeybone Lodge, Erza scolds them for their lateness, but it is interrupted when Lisanna and Elfman walk in. The meeting is interrupted, however, when it is announced that the preliminary for the Grand Magic Games is about to begin. They are informed that in order to be in the games, they must be one of the first eight teams to go through the Sky Labyrinth. Erza and the others are worried because Wendy is nowhere to be seen, but Elfman decides to take her place and they set off. Eventually, by defeating other guilds and taking their maps of the Sky Labyrinth, they arrive at Domas Flau, but are informed that they are the last of the eight teams to make it.

The Grand Magic Games begin at last, and in their preparation room, Erza and the others change into their team outfits before they head out to hear which teams made it out of the labyrinth before them. As the teams are introduced, they learn that Raven Tail has entered into the competition, and are angry when they learn that they are the ones who injured Wendy and Carla. She is also shocked to learn that there is a second team from Fairy Tail in the running, consisting of Gajeel, Mirajane, Laxus, Juvia, and Jellal disguised as Mystogan, all in order to get closer to the grounds. Natsu and Gray are both curious as to how Mystogan is there and Erza quickly reveals that it's Jellal behind the mask. Erza seems upset regarding him being in the games, telling him that it's against the rules and that he isn't an official member of Fairy Tail. Jellal argues though, saying that he and Mystogan are technically one and the same. Laxus however interrupts the conversation and tell the two to leave the situation, reminding Jellal that Mystogan didn't talk much and that he shouldn't either. Jellal also tells Erza to have faith in him and assures that everything will be okay. Later when she and Jellal are talking she tells him of her suspicion of Raven Tail. Jellal confirms that it isn't them since it was their first time in the games. A few minutes later, after they hear the rules for the first event of the games, Gray decides to enter for them in that round.

Sun Village Arc

When Erza turned into a child, she was worried that Jellal might reject her if he sees her in her child body.

Avatar Arc

Erza tells her guildmates that she infiltrated Avatar because of Jellal asked her to. She later tells Jellal the mission was success.

Alvarez Empire Arc

During the fight to free Hargeon, Erza, while with Kagura, is saved by Jellal when an enemy attempts to attack them from above. As they make their way onto Neinhart's ship, they see Simon, but he is quickly revealed to be an imposter by Jellal, much to Erza's surprise and Kagura's disappointment. Neinhart shows himself, and says that what they were seeing was a making of his magic. He proceeds to make "Simon" disappear, shocking Erza and angering Jellal. Neinhart sends a wave of magic energy towards Kagura, and Erza watches as Jellal pushes her out of the way, shocked, and calls after the two as their blown through the ships deck. As he falls into the ocean with the other girl, Erza calls for him again, only to be attacked by Neinhart before she could offer any assistance.

While under water, Kagura is tempted to leave Jellal to drown but decides against it. She saves Jellal by giving him CPR.

Neinhart overpowers Erza, and by the time Jellal and Kagura had gotten back, Erza had collasped from her wounds. Jellal stares shocked at Erza for a while as Kagura screams for Erza to stay with them. Jellal shoots a murderous glare at Neinhart, angered at him for what he'd done to Erza. Erza later wakes up, and smiles when she sees Jellal defeat Neinhart.

After Neinhart's defeat, Erza wakes in an infirmary to see some of her guild mates and some of the Mermaid Heel members, including Kagura. As Erza inquires about the battle, Jellal is mentioned and she gets a dazed type look in her eyes. Kagura also thinks back to how she saved Jellal and asks Erza for her forgiveness. Not mentioning what she did, she kisses Erza and states that it should be considered as her payment. In addition, according to fan theories, Kagura was basically passing a kiss on to Erza

Later, Jellal and his guild battle August, however they are easily defeated. When questioned by the Spriggan 12 member what caused him to turn against Zeref, Jellal replies that a brilliant light illuminated his darkness as an image of Erza comes to his mind. Despite his own severe injuries, Jellal desperately attempts to stand, thinking to himself that he must protect Erza at all costs.

Jellal later appears when Acnologia goes to attack Erza (and Wendy), shielding the former from the Black Dragon's spell with his own magic. Erza is surprised to see him, and watches as Jellal assaults Acnologia with a variety of spells, but to her shock, Acnologia emerges unscathed, revealing himself as the dragon of magic. As Jellal calls for retreat, the trio are timely saved by the Blue Pegasus guild, who crash their ship, Christina, into the dragon's side. Ichiya orders them to board the ship, however, Erza has her doubts on whether it will truly help them escape. Jellal manages to persuade her by pointing out that they must save time in order to flee.

Mere minutes after boarding the ship, Jellal and Erza fall into two intimate positions, albeit unintentionally; it was only a result of the Christina's rough shaking due to dodging Acnologia's attacks, but this did not stop the two from blushing or repeatedly apologizing to each other. Their little affair is cut short as the trio are approached by a woman Wendy recognizes as Anna Heartfilia, who is revealed to be the five Dragon Slayers' literature teacher from 400 years ago. She explains her history with the Dragon Slayers as well as Layla's connection to the Eclipse Gate, finishing her story by stating that she has found a way to defeat the Black Dragon using a distortion in time called the Timelapse. This information comes as a shock to the trio.

Later, after the strategy has been explained, Jellal notices that Erza has a troubled expression on her face as they watch Anna and Wendy converse. Somewhat concerned, he asks the redhead how she's feeling and confides in her about his doubts on Anna and her story; however, he admits that the woman's plan is the only option they have left. Erza, on the other hand, tells her childhood friend that she trusts Anna merely because they won't be able to achieve anything without her, let alone victory. This leads Jellal to comment that Erza's excessive trust in people is a quality of hers that he likes, but warns her that it is also a weakness.

As the ship approaches the Timelapse, Jellal and Erza steady themselves; however the plan fails as the Timelapse was revealed to have been sealed by Zeref, and as a result, Acnologia was able to pass through and latch himself onto the ship. Although they successfully manage to shake him off the ship, the two ponder on what must be done next, and turn to Anna for answers. In response, the Celestial Spirit Mage decides that they must force the Timelapse open themselves at all costs.

As Anna explains her plan, Acnologia proceeds to severely damage the ship. Jellal offers to buy time in order for Anna to open the Timelapse, but Erza questions the likelihood of his plan. Jellal jumps, assuring her it'll be alright, out of the airship, activating his Meteor spell with hopes of distracting Acnologia by evading his attacks. However, his attempts are futile, and the Black Dragon's roar nearly hits Jellal while splitting the sea in half. The close call leaves Erza panicked, and the redhead hurriedly asks Anna why she hasn't yet opened the ravines of time. However, the Timelapse somehow opens by itself (which is actually Zeref releasing its seal), but to the groups's immense shock, it is actually visible. Acnologia seems to notice it, putting their strategy in jeopardy.

Unfazed, Jellal assures the group that he can push the Black Dragon inside, but Anna warns him that it is too dangerous, as merely touching the ravines of time would result in the bluenette's doom. Arguing that he has no choice, Jellal makes an attempt to push Acnologia into the Timelapse with Meteor, and Erza watches in terror as she desperately screams his name. Despite this, Jellal continues to press forward, using Meteor to ram himself into the Black Dragon's stomach. He realizes that he can finally be able to protect Erza by ridding of Acnologia. However, Erza fears for his life and desperately screams his name as she watches in fear of what might happen to him.

As Jellal and Acnologia inch towards the Timelapse, the Christina fails and the ship plummets into the sea. After falling into the sea, Erza witnesses Acnologia grab Jellal and begin to crush him. Listening to Jellal's screams, Erza begins to fear for his life and she stares at Jellal with a look of panic and desperation. She prepares to go rescue him, however, the destroyed Christina begins to move once again, to everyone's shock. It's revealed that Anna and Ichiya have taken control of the ship and prepare to ram Acnologia into the Timelapse.

Using the ship, Ichiya manages to free Jellal from Acnologia's grasp, and reminds the falling man that not only does he have an obligation to make others happy, but there are people he must stay alive for, so he can protect them. Shocked by these words, the grievously injured Jellal catches sight of Erza hurriedly swimming towards him as he falls into the sea. The redhead is later seen supporting an unconscious Jellal as she witnesses Anna and Ichiya disappear into the Timelapse.

Erza later places Jellal on her lap after the two get to shore with Wendy and the other Blue Pegasus mages. As Erza smiles at Jellal, the latter laments his survival before sadly expressing regret on being alive. However, Jenny reminds him that he has duties to fulfill, with Erza nodding in agreement, stating that he must treasure his life. Their words in mind, Jellal looks at a still-smiling Erza.

A year later, Jellal, alongside the rest of Crime Sorcière, is pardoned by the newly crowned Queen of Fiore, Hisui E. Fiore. Hisui tells the group to look toward the future, as opposed to the past. Following the pardon, Jellal and Erza's relationship remains unclear, but Lucy notes that since then, Erza has started brushing her hair everyday, something she previously had no interest in doing.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest

Note: This is the official sequel to the main/original story (manga). The storyboard is by Hiro Mashima, and the art is by Atsuo Ueda. Because this spinoff is written by Hiro Mashima and promoted/endorsed by him, it's considered a canon continuation. As of 2021, an anime adaption has also been green lit.

Jellal is shown visiting the Sabertooth guild— to acquire information on the white mage— where he is teased by Minerva for being ‘unfaithful’ to Erza, which he abashedly denies having any relationship of the sort. Later, Jellal is threatened by Laxus for harassing Touka, a new Fairy Tail member he suspects of nefarious activity. He is shown wondering what Erza would do in his situation.

Erza, while fighting Kyria, is threatened by the latter to cut the feelings of attraction towards someone she likes, which Erza responds to fiercely while blushing. Before regaining focus, she mentally attempts to convince herself that the one she likes isn’t Jellal.

Touka, later to be revealed as the white mage, a wizard as powerful as Zeref, states that she is possessed by the actual White Mage. As the mage reveals herself she states that she will make the whole of Fairy Tail her followers. She then goes in search of team Natsu.

While on the second part of their quest team Natsu meets an old woman who shows them around town and reveals the history of Aldron, one of the Holy Pentadrakes. She then shows them to a church which they enter. The doors close behind them and the members act in shock when they see their guildmates being controlled by the White witch. Erza is especially shook and horrified as she sees Jellal standing alongside her possessed guildmates. The wizard also appears confused at his being there. The white mage attempts to turn Erza, Natsu and Lucy white as well but is stopped by Wendy. After they make they're escape, Juvia who was formerly controlled by the white mage but is set free by Touka explains that if they defeat all their guild mates they will be turned back to normal, but they still have to defeat the mage in order to regain their magical powers. However, as she explains Touka works through her to reveal the white mage's plan to destroy five orbs that supposedly keep the god dragon's powers.

As to stop their guild mates, team Natsu dispatches to the five cities containing the orbs. Erza takes the left hand city where she rushes to it's church to protect the orb. Inside the church she encounters Jellal. But as she prepares to do battle with him this possessed Jellal strips himself claiming that Erza should "come at him." Erza flustered by his actions, thinks him mad and convinces herself to defeat him as soon as possible.

As their battle continues, Jellal doing merely nothing but blocking Erza's attacks, Jellal leans closer to Erza, telling her of his expectations of her strength. Erza then claims his face is too close and begins to attack. Only, every strike is in vain since Jellal dodges them with ease. After the futile attacks Jellal comes closer to tell her that he wants to see an even closer view of her face.

After failing to land a hit Erza attempts to distract him by requipping into different, revealing outfits. The first being an outfit similar to a bikini only with a headband with cat ears and thigh highs. Afterward, she changes to her famous bunny girl, then a swimsuit and then her infamous Gothic Lolita. As Jellal is enjoying an array of eye candy Erza pulls out her Seduction Armor which was first revealed during the Tenrou arc.

Jellal pins her to the ground and Erza wonders if she didn't perhaps go overboard. Before he has the chance to do or say anything Laxus enters the scene. Him and Jellal exchange a few words on their objective to destroy the orbs and Jellal tells him that he is enjoying his time with Erza. To this Laxus claims that anyone who interferes and defies the white doctrine must be killed. Jellal is quick on the defensive and claims that he must have Erza and despite Laxus being an ally of the white doctrine he will protect Erza.

Erza is once again flustered and as she attempts a plan to take down the two wizards Kyria walks into the fray. Kyria realizing Laxus is a dragon slayer tries to eat him and Jellal sensing that Kyria is another enemy of Erza prepares to take her on as well. While those three are having a rendezvous Erza plots to take the orb and leave.When she tries to execute her plan her movements are hindered thanks to Jellal who placed a bind snake on her. He quickly picks Erza up and sprints to the church's exit with her, telling her they will go together. As he is on his way Erza frets over him needing to destroy the orb and that he should let her go. Jellal, however, denies her and tells her that dying her white is his top priority. He runs out of the church with Erza in hand while casting grand chariot. Only he changes the chanting of the spell and instead of "judged" says "be loved by the seven stars." Meanwhile Erza nervously thinks about her predicament, about the fact that she can't move and in the end confirms to herself that Jellal's state is beyond help.

Later on Erza is shown restrained to a tree by Jellal in a park-like area surrounded by a forest. Jellal comes closer to Erza and holds her chin. He brings his face close up to Erza's, telling her she will be dyed white. Erza blushes furiously at the lack of space between them. For a moment it looks as though Jellal is about to kiss her but then she says his name with a shaky voice. Her body trembles and she inquires for him to release her from her bindings as they bring back bad memories. Jellal looks down, recalling the times when Erza was bound during the Tower of Heaven arc and during the Alvarez war—he is unaware of when Erza was tortured by Tartaros.

Feeling guilty, he releases her. He apologizes and says he won't do it again. Erza then begins undoing the bandages of her Japanese cloth requip. Jellal acts flustered, blushing while asking what she's doing. However his fluster soon turns to surprise as Erza ties him up with the bandages, blindfolding and restraining him. He makes a prude remark at the situation as he assumes he's being teased. Erza blushes furiously at the comment, denying anything of the sort before running back to the church where Laxus and Kyria are having their stand off.

After Erza's fight with Laxus and after all the orbs were broken, the brainwashing spell cast over the Fairy Tail members vanishes. The White Mage also loses her ability to steal other people's magic. As Jellal converts back to his original self he is seen taking off the bandages restraining him. He stares bewildered at the city which is crumbling around him.

Later on he is seen running with what seemed to be some sort of cloth over his shoulders. He also appeared to be looking for Erza in midst of the chaos, calling out her name and asking where she might be. He met Laxus who was carrying a wounded Erza shortly after and was worried about the scarlet mage's injuries. The two wizards both had no memories about the incidents that occurred after they were possessed by the white mage. Gears- one of the God Seeds of Aldoron- suddenly appeared before them as Jellal tells Laxus that he will fight the God Seed alone since the lightning mage was badly hurt. We later find out, while Natsu was fighting Aldoron, that Gears is the tactician of the God Seeds.

Jellal seems to have the upper hand until Gears cast a spell that completely controls his body. Just as he is attacked, Erza wakes up. She comments that she has to get to where Jellal is in order to help him. Laxus notices this and assures that her boyfriend isn’t that weak. In response, she blushes profusely and denies everything that Laxus pointed out, even though he has a knowing smirk on his face.

"I can love people freely now".

Meanwhile, Jellal finds himself in the rift between space and time and briefly reunites with Ultear. She tells him to stop punishing himself for his past deeds and encourages him to embark on a new path: "Live for her sake. This is your new path." With this, he transfers Gears' magic to his thought projection Siegrain and uses Grand Chariot to defeat Gears, while telling him “As of now, my gears have finally overlapped with Erza’s. So, "stay out of our way"

After the defeat of Aldoron, everyone comes together to celebrate and recover from the series of events, Fairy Tail style. Meanwhile, Jellal is standing outside by himself when Erza catches up with him. He‘s unable to remember what happened while he was whited out. Ezra blushes at the memory and tells him that he didn’t do anything wrong. She then reminds him of his habit of blaming himself when things go wrong. Jellal resolves to discipline himself over his past mistakes before finding a new path that will lead to tomorrow. He then says "That’s what it means to live, right?"

Jellal thanks her for being the reason for his change. He put his hand over hers and pulls her in an embrace while saying "I can love people freely now". Erza returns the hug, eyes closed with a smile, while agreeing with his statement.

After Brandish reverses her Command T spell on Erza and the other female mages from the Aldo hot springs, Jellal and Erza finds themselves in an awkward and startling position.

When her Edolas counterpart Erza Knightwalker asks if an Earth land Mystogan exists, Erza blushes profusely. Then she advises her to treasure him well. Erza replies 'Of course'

Upon returning from Edolas, Jellal and Erza are seen out on a date. Erza invites Jellal to join Fairy Tail, and he’s given some time to think about it.

Fairy Academy - Yankee-kun Yankee-chan!

School is finally over and Lucy walks through the hallways with Wendy. When they leave the school, they find Erza waiting for them by the gate. Erza offers to walk with them and the two agrees. While walking, the shy and blushing Erza reveals that the real reason she asked them to accompany her is that she was asked out on a date by Seig from the elite school, Era Academy, and asks them to help her pick a dress. The two immediately agree and pull Erza into a shop.

After they finish shopping, the three are confronted by the students of Courage Academy. Erza leads the two past the group but Gajeel grabs Lucy's hand, asking her to play with him. Erza takes off her glasses and then pulls out an iron pipe from inside her dress. She quickly beats up all the enemies. Erza then sees her date, Seig, who drops the flowers he is carrying after seeing Erza beat up the students. Seig calls her a devil and Erza is lost for words.

The next day, Erza still hasn't recovered from what happened the previous evening and everybody tries to cheer her up. Happy then announces that they have a new transfer student named Jellal whose face is just like Seig's. Upon seeing the face of the new student, Erza is speechless.

Later, Erza begins to ask Lucy for help again for her date with Jellal. Erza then sees the eccentric guy from the previous day whose face is also exactly like Jellal and Seig's, making her pass out.

Later that day, the five students from Courage Academy arrive at Fairy Academy. After Lucy calls on her strongest friend to help them fight during the fight, Erza then goes to join the fray, but falls into a pitfall. Erza, noticing that her dress is ruined; she quickly disposes all of the enemies. Just then, Sieg, Jellal and their eccentric look-alike arrive and call Erza the devil, leaving her dumbfounded. Later that night, Lucy tries to cheer Erza up but Erza tells her that she's okay and the group, with Mirajane, goes to karaoke all night long.

The Exciting Ryuzetsu Land

Based off of Chapter 298 of the manga, the Fairy Tail gang along with a bunch of other guilds head to Ryuuzetsu Land (swimming pool resort) on the third day of the Grand Magic Games. While there, Erza and Lucy take a look around the area. When Mavis, Makarov, Laxus, Freed and Bickslow were doing warm up, Erza notices Jellal in the pool with his mask on and asks what he's doing. At the same time, Natsu comes across Ichiya and the two go out to eat. After eating, Natsu and Ichiya have a race in the water park.

Despite being warned against it, the two continue until Ichiya slips on the water and causes Natsu to go flying. Ichiya spins out of control towards Erza, whom Jellal pushes out of the way while Ichiya hits a rock and sinks into the water. Jellal lands on top of Erza, with his hands on her chest. Blushing profusely, Jellal immediately takes his hands off and apologizes. Erza, flustered, says it's alright when suddenly Natsu knocks into Erza and pulls on her swimsuit strap. Furious, Erza kicks him, causing him to go flying to the Love Love Slide where he bumps Gray and Lyon, causing them to fall onto the love slide together while he crashes into the purple heart decoration and the heart starts to go down the slide as well.

Later, Erza was seen together with Jellal and they were knocked by the heart, causing to fall onto the love slide. When they fall onto the love slide, they were seen blushing and holding each other. While holding onto Jellal, Erza spots Natsu above holding the heart and angrily yells at him for causing the ruckus. Later, while holding onto Erza, Jellal notices that Erza's swimsuit top has started to fray, and awkwardly starts blushing again. Erza then humiliatingly notices that her swimsuit is coming apart from both pieces, resulting in too much stimulation for Jellal to handle. Meanwhile, Gray and Lyon start to fight on the love slide and as a result end up freezing the park and everyone in it except Natsu. Falling off the heart, Natsu angrily breaks the ice with his fire, causing a huge explosion and resulting in the entire water park being destroyed. After the water park has been destroyed, Erza is seen sitting on top of Jellal's head.

Fairies' Christmas

In this OVA the fairies are celebrating Christmas and helping clean the Cathedral. While cleaning Natsu and Gray get into a fight when Happy rings the church bell accidentally. Not long after the bell falls off from its top and Erza scolds the two. The other members become worried because the bell has to ring that evening. Erza immediately instructs the two to fix the mess, which they eventually accomplish.

Once they are done and the bell rings, Lucy looks over at a trembling Erza. As Lucy inquires about the matter, Erza bursts yelling a 'Merry Christmas' to everyone. As everyone joins in her excitement, Team Natsu, along with Juvia, Gajeel, Levy and Pantherlily decide to have a party at Lucy's house.

As the excitement carries on, the girl's become drunk. Carla instructs Happy and Pantherlily that they are her reindeer, while Levy goes on to laugh at Gajeel and then plays with his hair, Juvia points at the snow while talking to Gray and hugs him while telling how sad it is, Lucy then starts flirting with Natsu and inevitably pins him while rubbing his jaw. Erza is then shown being jealous of all their actions and their closeness.

So, in order to distract herself and the others she decides to host a game, the Guild Master game. In the game there are multiple sticks with numbers and one has the symbol of the Master. The master must then pick a number and the person with that number has to carry out the order they are given.

Evidently, Erza cheats through Majority of the game and gives her friends some of the most embarrassing dares.

In the last round, Gray gets to be the master, he also cheated and looked at Erza's number. Deciding he wanted to end the game he sent her home with a terribly tough dare: she had to walk home naked!

At first Erza seems shocked but then she undresses, which leaves her comrades shocked and flustered. Gray then tries to stop her but fails in doing so. Erza leaves Lucy's place in nothing but a Santa hat and a choker with a bell.

As she walks the streets alone she stops and looks up at the clouds with the snow coming down. She sighs thinking she's a little cold before hearing a set of footsteps in the snow. As she looks to see the stranger she recognizes him as Jellal.

Jellal gives her a blank look until Erza becomes flustered and exclaims for him not to look at her as she attempts to cover herself by curling into a ball on the snow bed. Jellal, slowly realizing the gravity of the situation becomes flustered himself before walking to over to the crouched down Erza and placing his coat on her.

He inquires about her being with her friends and being drunk, to which she tells him that she was envious to see them getting along with the opposite sex so easily.

Jellal then smiles at her and she looks back at him with tears in her eyes and a blush coating her face. Jellal then offers to take her home and states that she should come closer due to the cold. Erza attempts to deny but cuts herself off and rephrases by saying,'It's pretty warm.' In addition, while the screen focuses on the sky and Christmas decorations, there is a sign on a building. In the manga the word Love is written on the sign, while in the anime it is just covered with snow.

Gloomy Erza

Erza is in the guild by she walks past Juvia, who is practicing kissing in front of a mirror. Curious, Erza asks what she’s doing. Juvia then explains an article she read on Sorcerer Weekly magazine to prepare for her big day with Gray. Just as she chases after Gray, Juvia advises Erza to practice for her forthcoming day or Jellal will be disappointed if he’s doesn’t think she’s good. In response, she flusters and ask why his name is bought up.

Later, at a coffee shop, Erza settles in her seat and skims through the article. Juvia’s words run through her mind. She immediately shrugs it off as being stupid and denies her relationship with Jellal. A few moments later, she falls to peer pressure and decide to practice for her forthcoming day. At the same time, Jellal walks by just as Erza is perfecting her kissing face on the store window. An embarrassed Erza denies her actions as Jellal asks what she’s doing.

Fairy Tail City Hero

Fairy Tail City Hero is a side manga of Fairy Tail. Its author is still that of the original Fairy Tail series. The story takes place in a modern day version of Fiore. Fairy Tail, instead of a magic guild, is one of a few Magic Police Departments.

Erza is part of the Fairy Tail Police Department while Jellal is the owner of Cafe Crime Sorciere. There are mainly two big moment involving these two.

The Mysterious Masked Thief Arrives!

The arc starts off with members of the Fairy Tail police department inside Cafe Crime Sorciere. While being served their drinks, Meredy hands each of them a plate with souffle cheesecake. Erza, being a cake lover, makes a remark of how fond she is of the sweet. Meredy then proceeds to tell her that the cake is from Jellal.

Jellal then tells Erza to not always wear such a serious expression to which she gives a flustered response by telling him to mind his own business. From there on out her teammates proceed to tease her about liking Jellal.

After the break they are contacted by a mysterious thief whom has become quite popular on the media. He lets them in on the next item he plans to steal, which happens to be within a museum. Fairy Tail springs into action to guard the piece.

It is revealed that Jellal plays the role of the masked thief while Ultear and Meredy are his back-ups. After getting the control room, Meredy shuts down the power, giving Jellal the chance to steal the item. Fairy Tail, however, turns the power back on quickly. Although, instead of one thief they find two identical ones. They split up, leaving the Fairy Tail team to choose between the two. Erza runs after one while the rest run after the other— who happens to be Ultear that used transformation magic to turn into Jellal.

Erza chases Jellal until the man jumps out a window. After their futile attempts to catch him with artillery, Erza follows him out the window. She requips into her Heaven's Wheel Armor and attacks him, sending him flying into the ground. As he crashes into a forest Jellal's mask chips. Erza confronts him, but is unable to continue talking as she sees Jellal's mark beneath the mask. Stunned by the discovery Jellal has a chance to slip away.

It is later revealed that the item Fairy Tail was trying to protect was actually a stolen item. As was everything in the museum.

At the end of the arc, Erza goes back to Cafe Crime Sorciere. Jellal remarks of her being unaccompanied before asking if she came for cake. Erza then informs him that she just wanted to see his face. She continues to ask him if he is hiding anything from her. Jellal appears nervous while denying anything of the sort. Erza then proceeds to share what she then claimed to be her monologue. Jellal listens intently before complying with her words.

However, it is vaguely hinted in the end that Erza is aware of Jellal's identity as the Masked Thief.

Shift💕====I Don't Remember==== Erza as well as Lucy and Cana had a night out drinking. They wake the next morning within Lucy apartment. As the three prepare to go to work they are unable to find Lucy's Police ID. Without it she will be sanctioned and so the three of them set out to find it. However, having hardly remembered where they were they have trouble retracing their steps. In the end, after running out of places to search and accepting that they have officially lost Lucy's Police ID they go to Cafe Crime Sorciere.

All three look worn out as they enter the shop. After sitting down and ordering drinks Erza states how exhausted she is. Jellal tells her, her exhaustion is understandable to which Erza gives him a curious look. He then tells them all that they came to the cafe terribly drunk late at night wanting sweets. After that, he shows them Lucy's Police ID.

Relieved, all of them begin to celebrate until Jellal remarks on something Erza had said. Not quite remembering she begins pushing Jellal— who refuses to say anything— to tell. Having no real regard for the situation at all, Meredy then begins explaining all the prude things Erza did while drunk. Naturally, not the whole story was revealed, but according to Meredy, Erza had gone to the kitchen and stripped herself. From there on, the story is unclear, but both Jellal and Erza are blushing. Lucy and Cana begin pressuring Jellal to expose what happened further, but he still refuses. However, in the end, Erza seems to have remembered what she did.
